Canonsburg General Welcomes Nationally Recognized Surgeon to Peters
A leading esophageal disease specialist is serving and accepting new patients at Peters Township's Outpatient Care Center.
Canonsburg General Hospital (CGH) has welcomed one of the country’s leading specialists in esophageal disease, surgeon Blair Anderson Jobe, MD, to its medical and surgical staff.
He will be seeing patients at the West Penn Allegheny Health System's Outpatient Care Center in Peters Township.
Considered to be one of the nation’s preeminent esophageal disease specialists, Jobe is a pioneer in the field of minimally invasive surgery and endoscopic therapy for the treatment of esophageal cancer, Barrett’s esophagus, esophageal mobility disorders and gastroesophageal reflux disease.
Jobe received his medical degree from Creighton University in Omaha, NE, and completed his internship and residency at Oregon Health & Sciences University and a fellowship in minimally invasive esophageal surgery at Swedish Hospital in Seattle, WA.
A board-certified surgeon, Jobe received the 2005 Outstanding Researcher of the Year Award by the Society of American Gastrointestinal and Endoscopic Surgeons and the 2010 Faculty of the Year award within UPMC’s Division of Thoracic and Foregut Surgery.
A prolific medical researcher and international lecturer, Jobe recently served as the principal investigator for two NIH grants that focused on improving early detection of esophageal cancer.
To date, Jobe has received several million dollars in research grants. Currently, he is working on the development of serum and tissue biomarkers that predict the likelihood of disease progression in patients with Barrett’s esophagus as well as on novel agents for preventing and treating esophageal cancer.
“We are delighted to have Dr. Jobe at our beautiful Outpatient Care Center in Peters Township,” said Terry Wiltrout, president and CEO of CGH. “Dr. Jobe’s talent and innovation will greatly enhance the high quality of care available to our community.”
