DiamondBackers, Scouts, Band Fest & Plan Peters 2022

Here's what's happening in Peters in the next week or so. Add your own happenings in the comments!

Another week, another chance to get organized! With the start of school, sports and activities, it can be difficult to keep track. Here are some things, happening in Peters Township soon, to note.

First baseball meeting. The Peters Township High School DiamondBackers will have its first meeting tonight at 7 p.m. at the high school. Topics being discussed are new by-laws, membership, fundraising, workouts, committees, the weight room and the coaches report. The meeting will be held in Room B266. Be sure to keep up with the DiamondBackers on Facebook.

Scout sign-ups. Sign up your child for scouts! Pack 1393 is hosting an open house Thursday at the Scout Building on Thomas Road across from Crossroads Church of Christ. The event, from 6:30-8 p.m., is for boys in grades 1-4. It provides fun, excitement and outdoor opportunities. The program is designed to develop family and community relationships. Scouting is designed to help the boys develop into productive young men, according to Pack 1393.

The leadership is responsible to provide positive role models, examples of good character and is pleased to give back to youth. For more information, email or call Steve Campbell at campbell.stephen@yahoo.com or 412-216-7388

At the same time and place Thursday, Troop 1393 is hosting an open house for boys in grades 5-12. For more information, email or call Eric Rauscher at troop1393@verizon.net or 724-986-2200.

Lost dog. Bella is still missing! The 2-year-old female black lab mix went missing in April outside of Pleasant Valley Veterinary Clinic. Since then, she has continuously been spotted—most recently along Munntown Road and on parts of Waterdam Road just last week.

Her owners ask that she not be chased. "Offer a treat or a ball," they said. "Don't go toward her. Walk the other way and say her name."

The Garfold family has hung countless signs, continues to check local shelters and search for her. They have had a lot on their plate. In recent weeks, their 18-month-old son was diagnosed with Type 1 diabetes. They are praying that Bella finds her way home. If you see Bella, call Jennifer Garfold at 412-445-1316.

Mighty Indian Marching Band Festival. This year marks the 40th anniversary of the Mighty Indian Marching Band and the 18th annual festival. The band was founded by Dr. Robert Dell in 1972 and has garnered thousands of students over those years, according to band director Milt Barney.

The festival is on Saturday at 7 p.m. at the high school stadium. Bands featured are from West Greene, Chartiers Houston, Chartiers Valley, Charleroi, Upper St. Clair, South Park, Robert Morris University, and, of course, Peters Township.

Tickets are available at the gate—$6 for adults and $4 for seniors and students. The PTHS choirs will also perform the alma mater. See attached flyer.

There will also be an alumni tent set up with refreshments, photographs and memorabilia from the past 40 years.
