Former Venetia Attorney Sentenced for Forgery, Theft

A former Washington County attorney will serve more than 11 months in jail for forging signatures and stealing from clients.

A former Washington County attorney from Venetia was sentenced Tuesday to 11 1/2 to 23 months in jail, according to the Observer-Reporter

James A. Marchewka, 43, will also be fined $30,000 and ordered to pay full restitution for forging the signatures of judges, attorneys and clients on fake legal papers, and stealing more than $250,000 from clients over several years, the newspaper reports. 

A docket shows Marchewka pleaded guilty in April to more than 90 criminal charges before Senior Judge Jay Ober.

Twenty-five years of probation will follow his jail sentence.
