Four New Ways to Celebrate Valentine's Day

Skip those dinner reservations.

Looking for a new way to celebrate Valentine's Day this year? (Men, it's coming up on Feb. 14.) Here are four, well, unusual options that may tickle your fancy:

  1. Animal Instincts: Make your reservation at the Pittsburgh Zoo for dinner, cocktails, and an adults-only presentation by Henry Kacprzyk, who will reveal the intimate secrets of exotic animal mating. Event held Feb. 8 and Feb. 9 and costs $75 for non-members. Click here for more information.
  2. Cupid's Chase: Run with your heart this Valentine's Day by running the Cupid's Chase 5K Run on the North Shore on Feb. 9. The race supports Community Options, Inc.—a national nonprofit organization that develops housing and employment support for people with developmental disabilities. Click here for registration information.
  3. Bloody Valentine: Enjoy a non-romantic horror-themed event on Feb. 9 at the Crowne Plaza that will feature food, drink, music and games. The party runs from 9 p.m. to 2 a.m. and is open to singles and couples 21 and over. The evening begins with a comfort food buffet. Guests will also receive a complimentary glass of “blood” (Sangria). Other planned activities include a Shredathon—bring a picture of your ex to put through a shredder—and a horror trivia contest featuring questions on films with a love-gone-bad theme. Suggested dress is casual, horror-themed apparel. Click here to get tickets.
  4. Red is Dead Anti-Valentine's Day Party: Celebrate being hot and single, and enjoy some time to mingle. Stop by Olive or Twist on Feb. 14 at 7 p.m. There's a $5 cover, but if you bring a picture of your ex and shred it at the door you get in free. There will be a live DJ, hors d'ouerves and drink specials.
