Get Out: 'Brighton Beach,' Health Fair, Music Festival

Here's some of what's happening in Peters Township this weekend.

 

1. Brighton Beach Memoirs
Where/When: Peters Township High School, 7 to 9:30 p.m. on Thursday to Saturday
Why Go?: The Peters Township Thespian Troupe #185 presents Neil Simon's highly acclaimed Brighton Beach Memoirs. Set in the Brighton Beach section of Brooklyn, NY in September 1937, this coming-of-age comedy focuses on Eugene Morris Jerome, a Polish-Jewish American teenager who experiences puberty, sexual awakening and a search for identity as he tries to deal with his family; including his older brother Stanley; his parents Kate and Jack; Kate's sister Blanche; and her two daughters Nora and Laurie, who come to live there after their father's death. Tickets will only be sold at the door for general seating. 

Note: There will be a 2 p.m. show on Saturday. Read more about the cast here.

Pricing: $10 for adults and $5 for students and senior citizens  

2. McMurray Rotary Club Annual Health Fair
Where/When: Outpatient Care Center, 8 to 11:30 a.m. on Saturday
Why Go: In order to address the health needs of the Peters Township community and promote a healthy lifestyle, the McMurray Rotary Club is sponsoring its annual Health Awareness Fair for people of all ages. The event will be held at the Outpatient Care Center in Peters, where information on a variety of health-related topics will be offered along with some fun activities and giveaways for the whole family! For more information or to pre-register, contact Dr. Sarah Kohl at 724-942-5498. Walk-ins are welcome.

3. LEGOs at the Library
Where/When: Peters Township Public Library, 1 to 2:30 p.m. on Saturday
Why Go?: LEGOs at the Library is for kids and parents of all ages! Build new creations, play LEGO games on the Wii or watch clips from an awesome LEGO movie.
Pricing: Free

4. Author Talk: Nancy Hahn
Where/When: Peters Township Public Library, 1 to 2 p.m. on Sunday
Why Go?: This weekend, the library welcomes Nancy Hahn, author of the children's books One Lost Boy and The Adventures of Eshe the Ethiopian Elephant series. She will share readings and discuss her books. Hahn is an award-winning children's TV producer and writer, in addition to being a BMI songwriter. Register for this program online, at the library's circulation desk or call 724-941-9430.

5. Spring Music Festival
Where?/When?Our Redeemer Lutheran Church, 4 p.m. on Sunday
Why Go?: Come enjoy a spring concert presented by choirs from Our Redeemer Lutheran Church, Faith Lutheran Church (Upper St. Clair) and St. Benedict the Abbot Catholic Church.
Pricing: Free

The Author Talk with Nancy Hahn at the Peters Township Public Library has been postponed due to a delay from the publisher. A new date for the talk has not yet been scheduled.
