Get Out: Weekend Planner

Symphony of Food, Peters Township Middle School's first-ever Hot Chocolate Cafe and the high school's annual cheer clinic are just a few events happening this weekend.

 

1. Symphony of Food: A Chef’s Showcase
Where/When: Bella Sera, 6 p.m. on Friday
Why Go?: The best chefs of Pittsburgh join the 5th Annual Symphony of Food sponsored by WOMEN of Southwestern PA, Inc. A Parade of Chefs will be held at Bella Sera in Canonsburg. Four fabulous 2011 Pittsburgh Magazines’ Best Restaurant Chefs will each prepare one of their signature courses.

The chefs include: Kevin Sousa, Salt of the Earth; Brian Pekarcik, Spoon; Chet Garland, Toast Kitchen & Wine Bar, BRIX and Rumfish; and Dominic Branduzzi, Piccolo Forno. Chef John Gruner of Giant Eagle’s Market District will provide the luscious appetizers both charcuterie and passed.

Each chef comes with a litany of fine-dining successes and the recipe for a fun-filled, palate-pleasing evening concluding with a luscious Sarris’ Candies chocolate dessert. The Chinese auction, with baskets ranging from $200 to $1,200 in value, will further provide an opportunity to end the evening with a pleasant win. 2. 8th Annual Peters Township Girls Lacrosse Wine Tasting Fundraiser
Where?/When?: Valley Brook Country Club, 7 p.m. on Friday
Why Go?: This wine tasting fundraiser features a night of specially-selected wines, delicious food, music and Monte Carlo games. Admission includes $250 worth of “gaming money,” wine, food and fun! Call 724-942-3971 or email dddray@comcast.net for tickets.

3. PTMS Hot Chocolate Cafe
Where?/When?:  Peters Township Middle School, 7 p.m. on Friday
Why Go?: Peters Township Middle School will hold its very first Hot Chocolate Cafe. This will be a fun evening of entertainment for all students and will showcase performances by the high school students. There will be refreshments, raffle prizes and time to socialize with friends.

Tickets will be sold for $1 during the lunch periods on Thursday. If you buy your ticket Thursday, you will also get a raffle ticket and be eligible to win some cool prizes. Tickets will also be sold at the door for $1; however no raffle tickets will be sold. Raffle tickets will be given out for pre-event sales only. You must be present to win your prize. The event will be held in the middle school cafeteria. Participants should only enter through the lower-level cafeteria doors. Bring your student ID for entry!

4. Achieving Peak Performance
Where/When: Peters Township Public Library, 10 a.m. to noon on Saturday
Why Go?: Join the library in a leadership workshop that will help you achieve and maintain peak performance, presented by Tom Crea, motivational speaker and development coach. They'll explore secrets of successful individuals and teams, such as the 1980 U.S. Men's Olympic Hockey "Miracle on Ice" who triumphed despite their underdog status. This workshop is open to adults as well as students (middle school and older) seeking to maximize their potential throughout life. Parents and children are encouraged to attend together to get the most out of the information provided. Register for this program online, at the library's circulation desk or call 724-941-9430.

5. PTHS Cheer Clinic 2012
Where?/When?: Peters Township High School, 1 to 3:30 p.m. on Saturday
Why Go?: The Peters Township High School cheerleaders will host their annual cheer clinic. Children ages 5 through grade 6 are invited to learn a new dance, cheer and stunts! Instruction is provided by the award-winning PTHS cheerleaders and coaches. All clinic cheerleaders are invited to show off their new skills during the half-time show of the girls' varsity basketball game on Feb. 6 at Peters Township High School. Participants should enter through the main entrance of PTHS for registration, beginning at 12:15 to 1 p.m. A performance for friends and family will begin at 3:45 p.m. Registration includes a T-shirt and refreshments for your child on the day of the clinic.
