The sewer tap-in issue—halting new construction—in the eastern part of Peters Township may be solved. Last night, the Peters Creek Sanitary Authority (PCSA) signed an agreement with the Clairton Municipal Authority (CMA).

The agreement will allow for $40 million in expansions to the Clairton wastewater plant, according to the Observer-Reporter Friday. The PCSA and the CMA unanimously approved the plan, the O-R reports.

The plant serves more than 4,500 customers in Peters, Finleyville, and Union and Nottingham townships. The state Department of Environmental Protection will get back to reviewing contractors’ applications for tap-ins to start new construction.

Originally, the PCSA was in favor of building its own plant. At a meeting in March, where local contractors asked for council's help, PCSA chairman Otto Szabo told builders, “We’re on your side.”

The expansion will be complete in three or four years, according to the O-R.
