The former Charapp Ford South building along Route 19 in Peters Township is finally coming down.

The sprawling dealership building, that most recently housed SP Floors, is being demolished to make way for a Giant Eagle Express.

There will be a small grocery store, pharmacy, GetGo gas station and car wash on the prime real estate next to Beinhauer Funeral Home. But for now, there’s only a heap of rubble in the parking lot as crews dismantle the building.

The demolition began just recently, even though SP Floors moved out of the location last summer, according to its website. The flooring company has moved into a new location at the old Ethan Allen store at 2917 Washington Road.

There is no construction date set for the Giant Eagle Express.

Because that's what we need, another Giant Eagle structure between Washington and South Hills Village. That will make at least 5. To everyone who is considering using this facility or thinks it might be a good idea, remember that a monopoly is a bad idea. Do we want to allow one company to force the other markets, gas stations, car washes and pharmacies from the area? Think before you purchase!
