Monday night, Peters Township School Board named Nancy A. McCann the district’s new director of human resources, effective Oct. 31.
McCann, who holds a law degree, is currently the labor relations manager at the University of Pittsburgh Graduate School of Public Health—a position she has held for the past five years.
She has also been special counsel at Tucker Arensberg in Pittsburgh, was a partner of Hoffman & McCann, and was an associate attorney with Steele & Hoffman.
She has represented school district clients on labor and employment questions arising under the Pennsylvania School Code.
In her practice as a labor attorney, she has worked with districts with a focus on labor, employment, special education, student discipline and constitutional issues.
McCann's appointment was made shortly after the board voted to create the director of human resources position. McCann’s salary is posted as $95,000.
The board also approved the hiring of extra duty personnel for fall activity programs, or those which are already underway.
The action came following an executive session near the end of the meeting, called to discuss the appointments. Board members had earlier voted on the question regarding extra duty personnel, but it failed by a 4-4 vote. Unanimous approval came when positions other than the fall positions were removed after the executive session.
In keeping with the board’s plan to begin the 2012-13 budget process early in the year, a finance committee meeting was set for Oct. 24.
