Peters School District Receives Calls From Parents Following Newtown Tragedy
Administrators and staff reviewed safety procedures.
The Peters Township School District spoke to a number of parents Monday following the tragic school shooting in Newtown, Connecticut.
Parents wanted to make sure security measures were in place, according to district spokesperson Shelly Belcher.
Schools are locked during school and visitors must go through a procedure to enter to the school.
Visitors must show their photo IDs and staff members wear ID badges.
"We take it very seriously," Belcher said.
A full-time police officer works at the high school and is available for other district schools when needed.
"We also have a strong relationship with Peters police," Belcher said.
Belcher reminds parents to use the proper visitor procedure as many will be visiting the schools this week for holiday parties.

Ok, so PTSD takes their security measures "very seriously". The security measures referred to in this article seem to consist of 1 armed police officer in 1 building several miles from most of the other school buildings in the district. PTSD security also seems to include "locking doors" and a "procedure" for visitors entering the buildings to check in and show ID. Oh, and I don't want to forget the "strong relationship with PT Police". I admit that I can only know as much as I have read about this attack, but it seems like this masacre occured after the school doors were locked and it was all over in about 10-15 minutes. I have to say that the "security measures" of PTSD explained in this article are not reassuring to me at all and that none of our kids, administrators or teachers are "safe" based upon these measures. Obviously, there is no way to predict when a tragedy like this will occur, but in my opinion, this can happen here at any time regardless of how well we lock the doors or ask visitors to stop in the office to grab a visitors badge. Also, providing 1 armed police officer in 1 building does not do much for the kids, administrators, teachers or employees in other buildings.
