Peters Township Council Monday night unanimously approved the final plan for South Hills Honda to expand. The auto dealership is purchasing land from Forest Lawn Gardens next door and will combine it with land it already owns into one 4.625-acre lot. 

Council previously approved rezoning of the Forest Lawn property in February. Construction on the expansion can't begin until PennDOT approves a permit for work on the entrance off of Route 19.

NEW HVAC SYSTEM FOR MUNICIPAL BUILDING

Council also appointed Tower Engineering as engineering consultant to design a replacement HVAC system for the municipal building. Township Manager Michael Silvestri said the building was originally built in 1964 and last renovated in 1987. 

He says the HVAC system has reached the end of its useful life. Tower Engineering submitted a bid of $77,250 to design and replace the HVAC system, as well as replace the emergency generator. Silvestri said the new generator will allow the building to be used as an operations base during emergencies or when power outages occur.

NO METAL SPIKES, PLEASE

Council also discussed whether to allow the Peters Township High School cross country team and their competitors to use spikes when they start their races on the new artificial turf on Field 5.

The turf warranty bans the use of metal spikes which the team uses. Council approved the school athletic department's idea to use ceramic spikes instead and to supply the spikes for its competitors to use when they visit Peters.
