Peters Township Fire Department Announces Open House

The event is slated for Oct. 20 and you're invited.

As part of its 75th anniversary celebration, the Peters Township Fire Department is hosting an open house from 11 a.m. to 3 p.m. Saturday, Oct. 20.

“We’re gonna do a lot of things for both kids and adults,” Peters Township Fire Lt. Michael McLaughlin said.

Along with tours of the firehouse, all the apparatus used by the department will be on display for visitors to peruse.

Also planned?

“We will have a car or two to help display how hydraulic rescue tools work,” he said, referring to the equipment fire fighters use to free those trapped in their vehicles in the wake of a traffic accident.

But there will also be plenty of activities for the kids to enjoy, too.

There will be a bouncy house and a children’s fire hose challenge. The fire safety house will also be set up, allowing children the chance to practice escape plans.

And of course, the department’s robotic mascot of sorts, Sparky the Fire Dog, will also be there to educate the kids.

Food and refreshments will be served.

McLaughlin said that while it is geared toward township residents, all are welcome to stop by to learn more about fire prevention—especially relevant, he said, because October is National Fire Prevention month.

“Whoever wants to come—bring your kids and family and have a good time,” McLaughlin said.

I believe that would be a "car or two," not "care or two."
