Peters Township High School Standout Named Gatorade Soccer Player of the Year
She's the first student in PTHS history to earn this distinction.
Veronica Latsko, of Peters Township High School is the 2012-13 Gatorade Pennsylvania Girls Soccer Player of the Year.
The award, which recognizes not only outstanding athletic excellence, but also high standards of academic achievement and exemplary character demonstrated on and off the field, distinguishes Latsko as Pennsylvania's best high school girls' soccer player.
The 5-foot-8 junior forward led the Indians to a 24-1 record and a third straight Class AAA state title this past season. Latsko scored 40 goals.
Latsko has maintained a 4.7 weighted GPA. She's member of Students Against Destructive Decisions, has volunteered as a middle school tutor, youth soccer coach and as part of a fundraising campaign to benefit March of Dimes.
"Veronica Latsko is an easy choice," said Seth Lehman, head coach of Cumberland Valley High School, which lost to Peters in the state championship. "She's incredibly dynamic and a threat every time she touches the ball."
Latsko has made a verbal commitment to play soccer at the University of Virginia.
Latsko is now a finalist for the Gatorade National Girls Soccer Player of the Year. The winner will be announced in May.
