Range Resources Donates $50K

Southpointe-based oil and gas asks others to match it up to $25K.

Mike Mackin of Range Resources said even though spring is on its way, temperatures have been frigid -- with wet, heavy snow having permeated the region just the other day.

And he said the company wants to make sure it does its part to make sure local families stay warm through the rest of winter.

Range Resources last week donated $50,000 to the Dollar Energy Fund's annual Warmathon, with a commitment to match other individual and business donations up to $25,000.

"While development of the Marcellus Shale is putting Pennsylvanians back to work and also keeping energy prices low, we recognize that many of our neighbors and folks throughout Western Pennsylvania have fallen on tough times," a company senior vice president, Ray Walker, said in a release. "Range wants to do its part to keep our neighbors warm and help heat their homes during these cold months."

Dollar Energy Fund Chief Executive Officer Cindy Datig lauded the Southpointe-based oil and gas company for its support -- both this year and in the past.

"I admire their courage to call on others to support our mission, as well," she said in a statement. "There's a great need and with their help, we can fulfill it."

Mackin said Range's donation is earmarked specifically for families in Washington County who qualify for energy assistance through the Dollar Energy Fund.

He added that last year, Range's $100,000 donation was enough to fund the utility bills for all qualified families in the Washington County area who sought help through Dollar Energy.

This year, the Warmathon raised almost $400,000.

Since 1983, Dollar Energy Fund has provided utility assistance and other services to qualifying families. For more information on the Dollar Energy Fund and how to apply to the Hardship Program, or to donate, visit its website here.
