A winter weather advisory is in effect for all of southwest Pennsylvania until 4 p.m. Tuesday.

The National Weather Service reports that at 8:55 a.m., the doppler radar indicated bands of heavy snow showers along a line extending from four miles northeast of Homeworth to eight miles east of Ohiopyle. Some locations that will be impacted by these bands of heavy snow showers include the South Hills.

Snow can accumulate a quick one or two inches where these bands of heavier snow showers persist, according to the National Weather Service. Visibilities can become sharply reduced and untreated pavements can become snow-covered and slippery.

At 9:15 a.m., Peters Township roads were salted and simply wet. Traffic inbound to Pittsburgh through Upper St. Clair was bumper to bumper and roads were very slushy—not as clear as in Peters.

Roadways were very slick—and traffic was heavy—near South Hills Village.

The bands of snow are expected to continute to shift across the area into the afternoon.

The Peters Township School District returned to class Tuesday morning. No delays or closings were issued.

Peters Township Fire Department President Greg Nardine tweeted for residents to avoid Boyce Road. "It's a mess," he wrote.
