Map information from the Pennsylvania State Police Megan's Law website.
As your little ones prepare to go door to door for trick-or-treating this Halloween, Peters Patch offers a map of the community's registered sex offenders whose residential addresses who are listed on the Pennsylvania State Police Megan's Law website.
The Megan's Law website provides information only for the individuals currently registered with the Pennsylvania State Police as sexual offenders. State police say the website does not list information for every individual ever arrested or convicted of a sex-related offense.
According to the website, state police verify and update it regularly to ensure it is complete and correct. They caution, however, that they cannot guarantee the information is as accurate as possible, or that it includes the current residence, status, or other information regarding every offender.

How the Map Works

Clicking the blue balloon will give you the address listed on the website. More information about specific charges for each offender is found on the Megan's Law website.

I don't believe your system works. The map as part of the article must be a snip of another screen shot. The blue balloons are not clickable. When using your link to "the map" the blue balloons are gone. With what is here, the addresses are not revealed, only the general locations.

I am quite upset with the map. The balloons work for me but I found that the one for "111 Saxon Drive" points directy to my home on the corner of Sherwood & Robinhood instead of Saxon Drive. Clicking on the 'more' link and then on 'view' displays a picture of my home! Obvioiusly Ms Brindle has not done her homework in 'reporting' these addresses. I have asked her to remove it and I would also appreciate an apology in the Peters Patch.

An apology? How do you think the victims of wannabe vigilantes feel when their information is accessible to any dodo with an internet connection? Welcome to the scary world of the Online Sex Offender Registry -- one mistake on your part, or someone else's, and there you are.

This article is completely unnecessary and will protect no child. Instead it will serve to harass law abiding citizens who have paid their debt to society and been rehabilitated. Why do I say that? Because there are NO reported cases in the entire state of any child being assaulted while trick or treating! For more details go to a comprehensive study by expert Jill Levenson and others at http://sax.sagepub.com/content/21/3/363.abstract. Waste of time, poor use of scarce law enforcement resources, and gives parents a false sense of security by focusing on the WRONG place. The VAST majority of child sexual abuse happens within the child's own family and close social circle. Teach children about that, about the Jerry Sanduskys, scout leaders and others who may exploit them. Do not waste time continuing to punish ex offenders who information is already out there on the Internet like Bin Laden's bio.
