Peters Township Middle School Principal Issues Dress Code Reminders

The 2013-14 school year is quickly approaching, and the Peters Township Middle School principal is making sure parents get the message about what is and isn't acceptable attire there.

"Our goal is to foster discernment and self-respect in our students and promote a wholesome school environment. Student dress should be characterized by modesty, neatness and cleanliness," the dress code policy states.

While the entire list of rules can be viewed here, here are five things aspects of the policy that parents need to know.

1. Shorts and skirts are listed as appropriate options for school if they are worn
according to school rules.  Shorts, dresses and skirts must be four inches above
the top of the knee or longer.
2. Form fitting clothing such as those made of spandex type materials, yoga pants, leggings, and other types and styles are only appropriate if worn with a top that is of appropriate length (mid-thigh).
3. Clothing and/or accessories may not advertise or promote the use of alcohol, drugs, or tobacco products, and/or bear offensive words or illustrations.
4. Hats of any kind are not permitted to be worn inside of the building. This includes bandanas/scarves/hoods.
5. Chains and/or chain wallets are not permitted on school property during the day and/or at any school function.

"Compliance with the dress code will be monitored every day," Principal Robert G. Freado wrote. "Students who dress in violation of the dress code are subject to disciplinary consequences."
