Memorial Day is one of two days a year that anyone can fish Pennsylvania's waterways.

No fishing license will be required on Monday, May 26, though all other normal fishing regulations apply.

The state's other Fish-for-Free Day is July Fourth.

“Fish-for-Free days are an easy way to introduce friends and family to the sport of fishing,” said Pennsylvania Fish and Boat Commission Executive Director John Arway. “Many families spend the day at lakes and parks throughout the state. Now they can try fishing at no cost. We know that once people try it, particularly kids, they will see that fishing is a great recreational activity and they will want to do it more.”

If you're interested in trying fishing, but don't have any equipment, you can borrow some for the day. The Fish and Boat Commission operates a library of sorts, loaning out  rods, reels and a tackle box full of hooks and other terminal tackle to people new to the hobby. Find loaner equipment here.
