Gallery: Peters Township Relay for Life Raises $103K for American Cancer Society

The Peters Township Relay for Life event was held Saturday at Peters Township High School.

It was a rainy Saturday, but the Peters Township Relay for Life event held that day was has been deemed a success—with thousands of dollars raised for the American Cancer Society.

A little more than $103,000 was raised, organizers said.

Myriad teams converged at Peters Township High School for the 24-hour event that raises money and awareness.

No official tally was listed on the event's website, but organizers said the goal was to raise $114,500—and nearly $89,000 was raised prior to the event.

The top individual fundraiser was listed as Sandy McWilliams, who was a member of the Pleasant Valley Elementary School team. She raised $11,762. More than $10,000 of that was donated to her by Pleasant Valley Idol—a talent competition held recently to raise money for Relay.

Donna Hartz, of the Bower Hill Elementary School team, was listed as the individual who raised the second-most amount of money for the Relay for Life event—with $7,655 raised.

Dave Matthews raised the third-highest amount of money, with $4,390 in donations.
