Get Out: Baseball Quarterfinals, 5K Race and Treasure Hunt to Benefit 'Pet Search' Animals

Where/When: South Park Flag Retirement Plaza, Thursday, 1 p.m.

Why Go: The specially-designed burn receptacle located at the heart of the South Park Flag Retirement Plaza is ready for the tattered U.S. flags to be placed inside of it and set aflame in honor of service to the country. The Allegheny County Council hosts the annual event to commemorate our veterans and to properly retire, as outlined by the U.S. code, the flags that tirelessly served our nation. Local boy scouts and veterans will dispose of worn U.S. flags by placing them into the burn pit.

Why Go?: Pet Search is hosting a yard sale and treasure hunt to benefit rescued animals that are being cared for by Pet Search. Pet Search is an animal rescue group that serves Washington County. Donations for the yard sale are still being accepted..

Why Go?: Registration for the 5K Race will be from 7:30-8:45 a.m. at the . The Peters Township 5K Race will start at Peterswood Park. The course is a 3.1 mile loop course with water stops. There are several categories of runners—husband/wife, parent/child, siblings under 19 years with several age groups also from 10 and under to 60+. Prizes will be given for the top three males and top three females overall, and first place in each age group. Register by stopping by the recreation center or go online.

Where/When: , Saturday, 9:30 a.m. - 4 p.m.

Why Go: This class for girls and boys, ages 11 - 15, will show you how to care for infants and children including feeding, holding, burping, diapering and dressing. Participants should bring a bag lunch. Register at the circulation desk.

Why Go?: This workshop covers the importance of composting, setting up a compost pile, proper maintenance and ways of using finished compost. Participants will receive an Earth Machine Compost Bin with attendance. Call or go online to register.

Why Go?: Stop by for a day of arts, crafts and vendors with many different items. There will be Bingo, food and more! All are invited.
