Get Out: Jazz Concert, Drive-in Movie and Chili Cook-Off

Here's what's happening Friday and Saturday in Peters Township.

Why Go?: Canonsburg Hospital will offer a HealthCare Provider with AED Class on Jan. 14 from 8 a.m. to 2 p.m in the McNary Conference Center. The class includes Basic Life Support and is an intensive, one-day program specifically designed for physicians, nurses, day-care workers, lifeguards and others whose jobs may require rescue breathing during a medical emergency. The class also includes CPR for all ages, AED (automatic external defibrillator) training and relief of foreign body airway obstruction. Participants earn a two-year certification from the American Heart Association. Call 1-877-284-2000 to register.

Why Go?: Keeping a child's room tidy can be a challenge! The Pottery Barn design experts are here to help. Attendees receive 10 percent off select products. The kids can join in the fun. Bring an empty shoe box for a crafting activity that will keep treasures organized.

Why Go?: Join the Disney Store for a Princess & Friends craft event. Come dressed as your favorite Disney princess! See the new spring styles to share with your friends. The event is limited per session based on store capacity. No lineups prior to 30 minutes before the event begins. The event is subject to change or cancellation without notice. The sessions are at 10:30 a.m., 11:30 a.m. and 12:30 p.m.

Why Go?: Missed your chance to see the show last week? Don’t worry because the show is coming to Upper St. Clair High School. TheatreworksUSA's live stage performance of “Charlotte’s Web” by Joseph Robinette has toured across the country since the fall of 1993 and is based on the Newbery Medal-winning book by E. B. White of the same name. The stage performance follows White's classic story of a pig named Wilbur who is saved from the slaughterhouse by a gifted little barn spider named Charlotte. This treasured tale, featuring madcap and endearing farm animals, explores bravery, selfless love and the true meaning of friendship.

Why Go: Join other players for the brawl tournament series. Show off your skills and win some great prizes. The top scorers will earn the chance to compete and win in the December Grand Championship. All ages are welcome. Players must check in before 12 p.m.

Why Go?: The Indoor Drive-In is for ages 3 to 6. Participants will design their cars then watch a movie from the cars. The movie is free but there is a small fee to cover craft and snack costs. Call 724-942-5000 to register.
Pricing: $5 for members or $7 for non-members

9. 
Where/When: , 6 to 9 p.m. on Saturday
Why Go?: Join the fun at St. Ben's Chili Cook-Off. The event will also include football games and activities for children. This cook-off supports the Youth Ministry Mission Trip, which grew to 50 people this past summer. If you are able to help with any aspect of planning, such as publicity, soliciting ticket sales, etc., please give Janet a call at 724-941-9587. The church is also seeking gift baskets for a Chinese auction. If you are able to donate one or two, your contribution will be greatly appreciated.

Pricing: $5 a person or $15 for a family allows you to sample as much chili as you want. For a $2.50 more, have unlimited sundaes.

Where?/When?: , 11 a.m. to 3 p.m. on Saturday
Why Go?: Trax Farms is opening up their pantry for , so come try the Trax Farms specialties. Numerous vendors like Wind & Willow, Miller’s Mustard, Boar's Head, Evelyn’s Edibles, Albert’s Meats, Schneider’s Dairy and more will also be showcasing their wonderful eats. Free tasting of award-winning local winery Arrowhead Wines is available as well. For those with a sweet tooth, come by and try the fudge and other baked goods. Free parking and free admission make this the perfect excuses to get the entire family out of the house and try something new. Come hungry.
