Get Out: Rally for America, St. Benedict Garage Sale and Art in the Garden

Here are 10 events happening in and around Peters this weekend. What are you doing to remember 9/11? Tell us in the comments.

Where/When: 10th Street façade of the Courtyard Marriott and David L. Lawrence Convention Center garage façade, Sept. 7 to 18, dusk to midnight
Why Go?: Duquesne Light and the Pittsburgh Cultural Trust will present two temporary lighting memorials for the 10th anniversary of Sept. 11, 2001. The memorials are meant for people to gather and reflect on the events of that historical day.

Where/When: , Thursday, 6-7:45 p.m.
Why Go?: It's movie night at the library! Come to the library for popcorn, candy and the movie Rio. No tickets necessary. Simply register in the Children's Department. Bring a sleeping bag and/or stuffed animal friend. See you there!

Where?/When?: , Friday or Saturday, 9 a.m.
Why Go?: Shop through an array of items at this annual garage sale! The church will accept donations until 7 pm. on Sept. 8. Volunteers are welcome anytime this week!

Where?/When?: , Saturday, 10-11 a.m.
Why Go?: Smell the fresh air and stretch your legs at Saturday Outdoors Hike. These one-hour hikes will cover a different topic each month while following the many beautiful trails around the classroom. These hikes are perfect for all ages and great for family activities that will give everyone a chance to connect with the nature found locally. Call 412-838-0064 to register.

Where/When: Lowes, Saturday, 10 a.m.
Why Go?: Children will build and decorate their own police car using this project kit.

Where/When: , Saturday, 10-11:40 a.m.
Why Go: It’s a great opportunity for your child to practice reading! Grades one and up are invited to come read to registered therapy dogs. The kids will love spending time with theses cuddly canines! Call to sign up. More information is available in the link above.

Where?/When?: , Saturday and Sunday, 11 a.m. to 3 p.m.
Why Go?: Come sample Bedner's homegrown, farm-fresh veggies. You'll love these easy and healthy dishes that are prepared with the farm's seasonal produce and herbs. Recipes will be available to take home. The farm will post what's available to sample every Friday on the Taste of Bedner's Facebook event page.

Where/When: , Sunday, 1 p.m.
Why Go?: The Joyful Noise Worship is designed for families with members on the autism spectrum, but is also ideal for young children who may appreciate being able to move around during worship. Join the church for a service in which movement and noise are an expectation. Rhythm instruments accompany most songs and the circle time children's sermon is interactive.

Where/When: LeMoyne House, Sunday, 2-6 p.m.
Why Go?: Washington County Historical Society is sponorsing the "Art in the Garden" event. There will be entertainment, refreshments and an art show. The show features three watercolor paintings by Arlene Popko: “The Basilica Palladiana – Vicenza Italy”, “Almost Empty – Corn Crib” and “Winter Oasis – Anna Maria Island.” To read more about Arlene and her work, .

Where?/When?: , Sunday, 7 p.m.
Why Go?: Peters Township Character Counts will honor the 10-year anniversary of 9/11. The school will celebrate the lives of those who died that day and honor the local service men and women and first responders. The event will feature performances by Scott Blasey, the PTHS Marching Band & Chorus and more. All local veterans and first responders are invited to attend this special event.
