Get Out Weekend Planner: West Side Story, Furry Friends and Grand Opening

The library is bustling with events this weekend, as is South Hills Village.

Welcome to the new and improved Get Out Weekend Planner! We recently combined the Grab & Go Kids Planner with Get Out for a one-stop shop for fun weekend planning!

It’s Thursday, and you’ve got no idea what you’ll do for the weekend.

Patch is coming to the rescue. We’ve got the best bets for your done-work-outta-here time. Check out our top picks for this weekend to find something for everyone in the family to enjoy.

Where/When: , Thursday, 7 p.m.

Why go?: H.O.P.E. (Helping Others Pursue Employment), is a faith-based outplacement services organization that offers professional and counseling resources to community job seekers. The organization will host a workshop each Saturday in O'Brien Hall. This week the focus is on Anatomy of a Job Search — Go Forth and Conquer.

Why Go: It’s a great opportunity for your child to practice reading! Grades one and up are invited to come read to registered therapy dogs. The kids will love spending time with theses cuddly canines! Call to sign up. More information is available in the link above.

Where/When: South Hills Village: Lower Lever North Court, Saturday, 11 a.m. - 1 p.m.

Why Go: Radio Disney and Disney Junior are hosting a celebration for the upcoming debut of Minnie's Masquerade on the Disney Channel. Kids will be able to make a crown or mask, and play theme games with the Disney Road Crew!

Pricing: Free with Simon Kidgits Club Membership ($5 annual fee per child)

Where/When: , Saturday, 11 a.m. - 1 p.m.

Why Go?: The new KEENage Korner, a space for senior citizens at the library, is having its grand opening event! Senator John Pippy will assist with the ribbon-cutting and bagpiper Sean O'Donnell will perform. Gina Snyder, from Sunny Bridge Natural Foods, will stop by and provide a healthy living lecture and demonstration. Light refreshments will be served. Where/When: South Hills Village: Yankee Candle, Saturday, 12 - 3 p.m.

Why Go?: Come sample local treats that taste like our amazing candles smell! Treats provided by The Pie Place, Godiva Chocolatier, , Chick-Fil-A and Signature Desserts (while supplies last).

Where/When: South Park BMX Track, Monday - Saturday, 1 - 5 p.m.

Why Go?: The South Park BMX track is having an open house for anyone who enjoys to ride their bike. Bring a bike, a close face helmet, long sleeve shirt and long pants. There will be loaner bikes and helmets available at the track. Any child under 18 must be accompanied by a parent or legal guardian. Free hot dogs will be served from 1 - 3 p.m., while they last. The first BMX race of the season will start at 7 p.m.

Where/When: , Sunday, 1 - 2:30 p.m.

Why Go?: Kick off National Library Week at the Spirit of Carnival at the library. Tracie Yorke will use carnival props, video projections and music to take participants on an interactive journey through the histories of carnivals in Trinidad, Brazil and New Orleans. Call or register online.

Where/When: South Hills Village, Sunday, 6:30 - 7:30 p.m.

Why Go?: Bring your furry little family member to the Lower Level, North Court to take a picture with the Easter Bunny! Please enter the mall through Lower Lever Entrance B, located on the Route 19 side of the mall. All animals must be on a leash or in a carrier.
