Hollywood Hits the Halls of Peters Township High School

Students and teachers take part in "Perks of Being a Wallflower" film.

In recent days, we've seen pictures of Emma Watson strolling through Mt. Lebanon, shopping at South Hills Village and spotted on Penn Ave.

We've all heard she's here with cast members Paul Rudd, Dylan McDermott, Logan Lerman, Nina Dobrev and Kate Walsh. But did you know a handful of students and teachers have also joined the "Perks of Being a Wallflower" cast?

"A couple of weeks ago the film's PR person reached out to me," said district spokeswoman Shelly Belcher. "They were looking for students over 18, but who look like freshmen."

In addition, the media students had an outstanding opportunity at their fingertips.

"The media kids were granted permission to stand by and watch how the movie was filmed," said Belcher. "They were able to see how a real production was done."

Scenes were filmed at the high school Tuesday and Wednesday of this week. Classes were unaffected as filming did not begin until the students were dismissed, Belcher said.

Filming is set to continue in mid-June and a definitive end date has not been deciphered.

The film company is paying the Peters Township School District $2,000 a day. No school name will be visible, but the Indian mascot will be used.

Author Stephen Chbosky, 41, graduated from Upper St. Clair High School in 1988 and wrote the novel 11 years later. He and Wallflower, LLC have been quite gracious to students and teachers, according to Belcher.

"They have been wonderful," she said. "It's something different and an educational process for students to take part in, which is awesome."

closed Thursday at 2 p.m. for filming and will be closed through Saturday.

Was privledged to take the part of a teacher in several scenes filmed at the High School in Peters Twp. My experience filming in the Middle Schoo was my biggest joy since I am a Paraprofessional there and had the staff that was on hand act as my "Cheerleaders" when they saw me on the set...PRICELESS~
