Patch Pet of the Month: Meet Velvet

Her name is more than a statement about her beautiful chocolate coat.

Her face, her eyes—her very expression—are all “Charmin” soft and candy-cane sweet.

This mid-size pit bull mix is flawless in beauty with a lovely disposition to match. Her winning temperament has been on display at many an offsite event around many other dogs.

Her story is much like so many shelter dogs—arriving at Angel Ridge Animal Rescue as a young mother with pups and as expected—the tiny, round-faced babies were plucked as soon as they arrived leaving momma-Velvet without a home or family even though she herself was essentially a pup when she bore them.

It is a common mistake to think that only puppies are a clean slate upon which to begin training. There are many genetic qualities that affect disposition and trainability. In fact, young dogs just like Velvet and senior dogs like Rocky are all able and willing to learn new tricks, routines and assimilate to new homes and people, too.

The adult dogs are almost always easier to housebreak and often need less exercise.  Velvet is gentle with children, respectful of adults and gets along with many other dogs. All she is asking for (we are asking for her) is a chance to gaze with her soft, loving eyes upon a person she can call her very own.
