Patch Pet of the Month: Sweet Seamus

This sweet-natured dog is being cared for at Angel Ridge Animal Shelter—and is looking for his forever home. Could it be yours?

I’m a  pretty boy with my golden red fur and angelic face. They gave me the name Seamus (a traditional Irish name pronounced shamus) but I respond equally well to “honey,” “sweetie” and other terms of endearment.

As you can see, I can’t take a bad photo!

I arrived at Angel Ridge Animal Shelter with a flea allergy (flea dermatitis) that has left a prominent bald ring around my neck where my collar used to be but that is improving every day.

I’m sporting a well-fitted, blue harness for walking and have been a great sport about not chewing on it or trying to get it off.

Basically, I look like a golden retriever-shepherd mix and I’m on the younger side from the nice white teeth I have. I’m slim, fit and ready to walk, jog or swim with you.

The kennel has been tough on me because I am not a fan of the other dogs here and would really like to have a family of my own.

I’ve been very good with the volunteers and any people I meet. I have a soft mouth and gentle way about me when taken outside away from all the noise and other dogs which bodes well for families with kids.

I’m always learning and respond well to treats for training. I learned how to sit in no time, but most of the time I am just hanging around in a kennel waiting for my lucky day.

What a hidden treasure! When volunteer dog walkers enter the shelter they're greeted with a chorus of welcoming voices. Many of the dogs will vie for attention with raise voices with the occasional dog leaping to dance. Seamus may appear to blend into this hustle and bustle of activity. His voice is small and sweet, but his gentle spirit and loving nature has quickly found it's way to everyone's heart. He is a true performer! My favorite time during my walk with Seamus is at the very end, when I sit down on the ground with him. Seamus will tip-toe into my lap when I gently call him. He lies down and stretches himself out along my body, from my chest to my knees. It's like he's my blanket! While I'm kissing his head, giving him ear rubs, and telling him what a good boy he is, he'll nuzzle his head on my chest. He's about the most loving dog I've had the pleasure to know. He really loves receiving and giving attention. I know that I'll cry (tears of happiness) the day Seamus finds his "forever home." But, in the meantime, his golden coat should be a clue for anyone looking for a gifted talent and treasure.
