Patch Picks: Dad's Pirate Adventure?

Well, the Pittsburgh Children's Museum presentation of "Dora the Explorer: Dora's Pirate Adventure" is for the kiddies, too.

This weekend dads everywhere will be gifted grills, taking tee time and digging in to delicious breakfast in bed. Why not change things up a bit and take dad somewhere more unexpected for a Father's Day adventure?

Pirates on the high seas, adventure, good guys, bad guys—what dad wouldn't love to spend his special day taking in the drama of a live pirate adventure? This weekend the Children's Museum of Pittsburgh is as far as you need to go to see it.

“Dora the Explorer Live! Dora's Pirate Adventure” features all of your child's favorite characters from the show, including Dora's best friend, Boots, that sneaky fox, Swiper, and the rest of the gang. During the hour-long performance, Dora will need the help of the audience to reach the treasure.

Show times are at 2:30 p.m. and 4:30 p.m. Friday, Saturday and Sunday. Tickets are limited to 100 per show, so be certain to go online and buy in advance. The cost is $12 if you are a member and $20 if you are not. Children 2 and younger are free to sit on your lap.

Ticket prices do not include admission to the museum, but for a few dollars more you can purchase a day of fun! In addition to the show, kids can dress up like a pirate, make a pirate craft and join in a pirate sing-a-long.

On Saturday from 10 a.m. until noon, children and their parents can join host Larry Berger of the Saturday Light Brigade for a live radio broadcast right from the museum. There is no cost to take part in this fun and unique opportunity.

After the broadcast stick around, because the staff of the Saturday Light Brigade will be helping children make a Father's Day gift dads are bound to cherish. Kids will get to record a CD in the studio to attach to a card to give the special dad in their life.

The card making and CD recording will take place Saturday and Sunday from 1 p.m. until 4 p.m. and by appointment and requires the purchase of a CD creation card kit from the gift shop.
