Paws for a Cause

Children read to canine companions at Paws for Reading, a library program that promotes child literacy.

Paws for Reading is a national literacy program where children, from first grade and up, read their favorite books to a canine companion to build self-confidence.

Heidi, a golden retriever, and Sonny, a border collie, are trained therapy dogs. Therapy Dog, Inc. is a national organization involved in animal-assisted activities, such as visiting hospitals, schools, nursing homes, etc., to spread cheer.

At the children sit with the dogs in 20-minute intervals and read.
