The statistics from the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention are shocking—nearly 15,000 people die every year from overdoses involving prescription painkillers, and 1 in 20 people in the U.S. age 12 or older reported using prescription painkillers in 2010 for nonmedical reasons.
On Friday, Feb. 15 at 3:30 p.m., several students from the University of Pittsburgh School of Pharmacy will visit the Peters Township Public Library for a discussion about prescription drug misuse among youth.
The program will cover the associated risks and how to identify and prevent abuse. It will include a video clip and some role playing scenarios.
The hour-long interactive session is geared toward parents and grandparents and is not suitable for children. Register for this program by emailing firstname.lastname@example.org, at the library's circulation desk or call 724-941-9430.
