Severe Thunderstorms Heading Through Pittsburgh Region

Wind gusts of up to 60 mph and quarter-sized hail are possible, according to the National Weather Service.

Most of the Pittsburgh region can expect to be hit with a series of strong thunderstorm moving through the area.

The National Weather Service has issued a severe thunderstorm warning for parts eastern Ohio, northern West Virginia and southwestern Pennsylvania effective until 4:15 p.m.

Thunderstorms are expected to affect west central Allegheny, northern Washington and southwestern Beaver counties.

  • I-376 between mile markers 52 and 68
  • I-70 in Pennsylvania between mile markers 0 and 17
  • I-79 in Pennsylvania between mile markers 50 and 49

In addition to large hail and damaging winds, continuous cloud to ground lightning is occuring with this storm, according to forecasters.
