Viewfinder: A Day at the Park to Honor Officer Kuzak

Fellow officers, family, friends and residents joined the highly-spirited Officer James Kuzak Saturday afternoon at Peterswood Park.

Cars bustled in and out of Peterswood Park Saturday afternoon in support of , who was shot in the line of duty April 4 in Clairton.

In attendance, Officer Kuzak mingled with supporters, loved ones, their furry friends and police K-9s. A rabies clinic, sponsored by the Washington County Animal Control and  was held from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m., with donations benefitting the Officer James Kuzak Benefit Fund.

The day's festivities also consisted of K-9 and search-and-rescue dog demonstrations, a bake sale and a Chinese auction, in addition to a savory-smelling cookout—Peters Township police officer Dave Stanton posing as the ever-smiling burger chef.

Officer Kuzak, gratified and in the highest of spirits, admitted there's no been no downtime. 

"Rehab is wicked," he said. "I'm now walking with braces on, which I never expected."

With no intermission and infinite support, he said staying busy has made him want to work that much harder.

"I'm treating this like an adventure," he said.
