Adoring Young Fans Accompany Scott Blasey and His Daughters

The singer joked, "Facebook me. Connect with me on Twitter. Stop by the house after dinner."

Normally, libraries are quiet places, somewhere you can be shushed for being too noisy. You wouldn't have been shushed on Sunday night at the .

The joint was jumping when , songwriter and lead vocals and guitarist for The Clarks, rocked out in a free concert for the community. Blasey shared the stage with his three children, and several other area children.

Library director Pier Lee, adorned in a Scott Blasey T-shirt, welcomed friends, family and neighbors, and library patrons to the show. Carrie Weaver, also sporting the requisite Scott Blasey T, introduced Blasey and his adorable entourage—his wife, Denise, and Sofia, 6, Ava, 4, and Gracelyn, 2.

Blasey and his daughters performed some popular covers, including Taylor Swifts, “Mean,” and Train’s, “Soul Sister.”

The funny, charming singer-songwriter was swarmed by adoring and adorable young fans, most of them under 10 years old, especially when singing a cover to “Dynamite” by Taio Cruz. Afterward, one little girl went running to her parents, cooing with infectious joy, “Mommy, Mommy, I was singing!”

Blasey told the crowd of one of his favorite moments in his career.

“In October 1998, I got to sing the National Anthem at Three Rivers Stadium," he said. "It was for Monday Night Football and the stadium was packed with fans. I was getting a little nervous. I was being ushered through to perform and on the way I saw [Penguin’s hockey player] Mario Lemieux. I kept thinking, ‘Don’t forget the words. Don’t forget the words.’ I was performing with my eyes closed and when I opened them I noticed that on the big scoreboard…they were showing the words. It was Giant Karaoke.”

The singer spoke proudly of living in Peters Township and being part of the community. He joked, “Facebook me. Connect with me on Twitter. Stop by the house after dinner.”

Blasey also performed a classic Clark’s song, “Penny on the floor,” “Shimmy Low,” and closed the show with his signature song, “Cigarette.”

Mary and Bill Ferny sold CDs and T-shirts afterward. Blasey has released three solo albums, “Travelin’ On,” “Shine,” and “Don’t Try This at Home.” Mary Ferny has been a longtime supporter of the Clarks. She had seen 300 shows before signing up and working with them. She's now been over to a thousand shows.

When Denise was asked if she was a fan of the Clarks before meeting Scott, she replied, "I didn't know who he was, I met him at an ATM machine."

Blasey has opened for rock icons Neil Young and the Beach Boys. He continues to tour with the Clarks and plays over 50 solo shows a year. All the proceeds from the event went to the Peters Township Public Library.
