Camera Club to Visit Joe Unitas Studio This Month

Joe Unitas has worked in the photography business for more than 49 years—once even working with director George Romaro.

The Western Pennsylvania Lensshooters camera club in Peters Township will travel to the photography studio of Joe Unitas, well-known professional photographer, for its monthly meeting, Dec. 12.

Members and guests are asked to meet at the Peters Township Public Library at 7 p.m. and carpool to the Unitas studio on East McMurray Road, a mile from the library, in Peters Township.

Unitas has been in the photography and lighting business for more than 49 years. He has worked with Alcoa, Westinghouse, Bayer, US Steel and many other large companies in the Pittsburgh area.

His most notable work was with George Romero in 1968 when he was lighting director for the horror movie, Night of the Living Dead.

Unitas will demonstrate his lighting technique and talk about the changes over the years and his work with the movie industry. Members may bring their cameras and if time allows, be able to shoot with the studio setup under Unitas' direction.
