Covered Bridge Festival Celebrations This Weekend

Washington and Greene Counties are inviting residents to the 42nd annual Covered Bridge Festival, a celebration of Pennsylvania’s rich heritage and beautiful countryside.

The festival will take place on Saturday and Sunday across 10 historic locations, offering an array of activities and events including handmade arts and crafts, home-style foods, historical reenactments and crafting demonstrations. Festival hours are 10 a.m. to 5 p.m., and admission and parking are free.

“The covered bridges of Pennsylvania are a link to our past," said J.R. Shaw, executive director, Washington County Tourism Promotion Agency. "The craftsmanship and artistry are a living testament to the very foundations our Commonwealth was built upon. Each covered bridge has a charm of its own that brings people back year after year. Our annual Covered Bridge Festival provides an opportunity to introduce our Commonwealth’s rich history to new generations, and we hope that the entire region will share in our celebration.”  

Today, only 208 of the more than 1,500 covered bridges that once decorated Pennsylvania’s stunning, sprawling landscape still remain. There are 30 bridges located in Washington and Green counties, some dating back to 1875.

Festival highlights include more than 125 local craft vendors, musical and theatrical performances, Revolutionary War reenactments, a petting zoo, wagon rides and an antique car show.

The Covered Bridge Festival is widely regarded as a signature event in the area—and a great way to enjoy the beginning of the autumn season.

• CARMICHAELS: Carmichaels, Greene County
• EBENEZER: Mingo Creek County Park
• HENRY: Mingo Creek County Park
• HUGHES: Amwell Township
• KREPPS: Mt. Pleasant Township
• MCCLURG: Hanover Township Park, Burgettstown
• PINE BANK: Meadowcroft Rockshelter & Historic Village
• WHITE: Gerards Fort, Greene County
• WYIT SPROWLS: East Finley Township Park
