Decorating 'A Piece of Cake' for Little Bakers

Contest participants left the Peters library with 'trophy spoons,' certificates, goodie bags and pride, all provided by The Pie Place.

Thursday evening, children shared their baking masterpieces with friends, classmates and family at the at the , sponsored by The Pie Place

The theme was "My Summer Vacation." 

From cakes named "Bonfire at the Beach" to "I Scream, You Scream, We All Scream for Ice Cream," kids were exceptionally creative—an ice cream truck coated in white fondant, crafted trees made of chocolate-covered ice cream cones and green-dyed Rice Krispies, a detailed campfire scene made with pretzels, miniature marshmallows, chocolate-covered raisins and gummies, and fish gills made of coated potato chips!

Brown sugar made for the ultimate "sandy" ingredient. 

The Pie Place, owned by Peters resident Julie Cobb Accamando and Jessica Culicerto Gombar, awarded contest participants with certificates and goodie bags, including class passes for  and a toothbrush from a local dentist (much needed after all of that sugar!).

Fun cupcake-themed gifts, award ribbons and "trophy spoons," for their next batch of cake batter, were awarded to winners also.

Children had the option to auction off their confections at the end of the evening—The Pie Place took home the cakes and the money was donated to the library. 

Baker Kirsten McGrath announced that more than $100 was raised for the library during registration.

The Pie Place made a back-to-school themed cake for the occasion, which parents and children enjoyed with lemonade while awaiting award results.

A Gingerbread House Decorating Contest is in the works for December, The Pie Place said.
