Peters Artist Sells Holiday Cards for Charity

Arlene L. Popko is selling 'A Wreath of Christmas Legends' to benefit The Fisher House Pittsburgh.

You've read about the "" on Patch numerous times, and now this Peters Township artist and resident is utilizing her skills to raise money for a local charity: The Fisher House Pittsburgh.

Arlene L. Popko is selling "A Wreath of Christmas Legends," a holiday card, with net proceeds benefiting The Fisher House Pittsburgh. 

Each package contains 10 cards and envelopes of the same design for $20 (shipping and handling included).

The card, an original painting by Arlene, describes the symbolism of the herbs and greens used at Christmas, she said.

To order cards, email cards4charityusa@yahoo.com with your full name, mailing address, telephone number, email address and the number of packages of cards desired. Credit cards are not accepted.

All requests will be acknowledged with order and payment details—Deadline for ordering is Dec. 10.

A Fisher House is “a home away from home” for families of patients receiving medical care at major military and VA medical centers. The Pittsburgh location is slated to be built on the property behind the VA medical center at University Drive in Oakland, and will be the first in Pennsylvania. The homes are normally located within walking distance of the treatment facility or have transportation available. There are 54 Fisher Houses located in the United States and Germany. The Fisher House Foundation, Inc., a not-for-profit organization under section 501(c)(3) of the IRS code, builds new houses, and assists in the coordination of private support and encourages public support for the homes.
