Traffic Alert: PennDOT Projects This Weekend

Before you head out, see which roads, ramps, bridges and tunnels will have restrictions.

residents planning to head downtown, east, west or south may be impacted by several construction and maintenance projects this weekend.

Here's the rundown from PennDOT: 

Parkway East (I-376)
Squirrel Hill Tunnel Rehabilitation
Traffic in the inbound Squirrel Hill Tunnel on the Parkway East will be restricted to a single lane from 9 p.m. to 10 a.m. Friday and Saturday nights for tunnel rehabilitation work.

Grant Street Tunnel improvements
Inbound Parkway East will be closed between Grant Street (Exit 71A) and the Fort Pitt Bridge/I-279 ramps from 9 p.m. on Friday through approximately noon Saturday. Crews will be performing repairs in the tunnel that carries Grant Street over I-376. The ramp from Grant Street to westbound I-376 will also be closed. 

Parkway West/Fort Pitt Bridge
Work to inspect the Fort Pitt Bridge will occur from 6 a.m. to noon Sunday, weather permitting. The left lane on the outbound (lower deck) bridge between the Stanwix Street on-ramp and the Fort Pitt Tunnel entrance will be closed. The ramp and access to the tunnel will remain open.

I-579/Crosstown Boulevard/Veterans Bridge
Ramp improvements
The ramp connecting the Liberty Bridge to northbound I-579 (Crosstown Boulevard) will be closed from 8 p.m. on Friday to 6 a.m. on Saturday, and the ramp from Bigelow Boulevard to southbound I-579/Liberty Bridge and the HOV will be closed this weekend from 8 p.m. on Friday through 6 a.m. on Monday. Note: The HOV will be reopened Sunday evening for traffic leaving the Steelers pre-season game at Heinz Field.

Banksville Road
Roadway improvements
Work to improve Banksville Road between Beverly/McFarland Road and the Parkway West will occur from 8 p.m. Friday through 6 a.m. on Monday. Traffic will be reduced to a single lane in each direction.

Editor's Note: Line painting work planned for I-79 interchanges Saturday has been canceled.
