While Accession Day was on Feb. 6, 2012, the 86-year-old Queen and members of the Royal family started to mark the Diamond Jubilee year Saturday with a series of engagements throughout the United Kingdon and the Commonwealth.

The special extended bank holiday is chock-full of celebratory activities.

Tuesday, the Queen and Royal family, and 2,000 British worthies, will attend an Anglican thanksgiving service at St. Paul's Cathedral, the USA Today reports.

Following Mass, the Queen and Royal family will attend private receptions, then a lunch at Westminster Hall. They will depart Westminster by carriage procession back to Buckingham Palace.

Military bands and troops from the three military services will line the procession route. The Sovereign's Escort of colorfully uniformed mounted troops will trot alongside, according to the USA Today.

The Royal family will assemble on the balcony for ceremonies. Many royalists are taking part to express their thanks and appreciation to the Queen for her years of public service.

During her reign, there have been 12 British prime ministers, 12 U.S. presidents, six popes and she has visited 116 countries, The Huffington Post reports.
