Effort Under Way to Save the 70-Year-Old Canonsburg Lake

Two upcoming fundraisers are planned.

An effort is under way to save Canonsburg Lake in North Strabane and Peters townships.

Because of sedimentation, the original 76-acre lake has been reduced to about 63 acres, and the maximum depth has been reduced from more than 42 feet to less than 12 feet, according to The Almanac.

Debra Valentino, a volunteer spearheading the effort, told the newspaper that a 2008 study found that there would be no deep water in the lake in 10 years and no lake at all in 25 years.
