Get Out: Jane Austen at Little Lake, Firehouse Subs Opening and Fall Edibles

Here are 10 events happening in Peters and surrounding areas Thursday through Labor Day Weekend!

Where/When: , Thursday to Saturday, 8 p.m.
Why Go?: Come experience this delicious romantic comedy at Little Lake Theatre! Pledging never to marry, the mischievous and beguiling Miss Emma Woodhouse, nevertheless believes herself to be the “matchmaker of Highbury.” As she puzzles and blunders her way through romantic mysteries of the heart, the audience meets a cast of unforgettable characters in a tale that captures Jane Austen's mastery of wit, irony and wisdom. Perfect end of summer entertainment!

Why Go?: is offering free blood pressure screenings at the Peters Township Community Recreation Center.

Where?/When?: Firehouse Subs, Friday, 10:30 a.m.
Why Go?: Come out for the grand opening of the first Pittsburgh Firehouse Subs! There will be a special appearance by Steelers WR Antonio Brown from 12 to 1 p.m. .

Where?/When?: Uptown Coffee, Friday, 6-9 p.m.
Why Go?: A family-friendly event featuring free live music and the chance to check out the businesses in Mt. Lebanon’s central business district. Enjoy live street performers and a great community experience.

Where?/When?: Home Depot, Saturday, 9 a.m. - 12 p.m.
Why Go?: The workshops teach children do-it-yourself skills and tool safety, while at the same time helping to instill a sense of accomplishment. Additionally, this fun time allows for quality one-on-one time between adults and children. In addition to the newly constructed project kit, each child receives a kid-sized orange apron, similar to The Home Depot associates' aprons and an achievement pin. This week's project is an ESPN Game Day Board.

Where/When: , Saturday, 12-2 p.m.
Why Go: All are invited to learn more about the Pittsburgh Youth Ballet Company at this open house. Fall classes start on Sept. 6.

Where?/When?: South Park, Saturday to Monday, 12 p.m. start time
Why Go?: Bring the entire family to savor great tastes as teams of cooks battle it out for the best ribs and chicken wings available anywhere. This Labor Day weekend-long event also includes live concerts by a terrific selection of local bands, craft booths, petting zoo, pony rides, beer garden, children's area and even a sports zone. The band Everclear will perform on Friday followed by War on Saturday. On the last day of festivities Molly Hatchet will perform.

Where/When: , Saturday, 9:30 a.m.
Why Go?: The Women of Calvary Full Gospel Church will hold a Women's Walk & Talk at Farmhouse Coffee. The walk will take place on Montour Trail. The walkers will meet at 9:30 a.m on the front porch of the coffee shop. The talk will begin at 10:30 a.m. for those who would like to hang out.

Where/When: , Sunday, 12-4 p.m.
Why Go?: Family Fun Fest will feature food, crafts, games, music and more! This event is fun for all ages and benefits the Washington Area Humane Society.
Pricing: $1/adult (12 and up) and kids are free.

10.
Where?/When?: Sunday, 2-4 p.m.
Why Go?: Join staff for an insightful, and sometimes tasty, journey through the abundance fall wild edibles. Animals rely on these tasty treats, so can we! Participants will learn the basics of plant identification and find many of the wild edibles found in Boyce Mayview Park. Samples of edibles will be enjoyed during the presentation followed by the identification hike into the Boyce Mayview Park. Call or email to register.
