Outpatient Care Center Cafe Now Open

And it isn't just for patients—all are welcome to stop in for coffee, snacks or a little relaxation time.

Janis Finn said it’s a fact: Most people can be a little anxious when they have to deal with medical issues.

That’s one reason having a café at the  was so imperative, she said.

“Our goal was to help alleviate all that—to help people be calm at a time when they are maybe a little more nervous,” Finn, director of the Peters Township facility said Monday—the first day the café was open for business.

Located right as you walk through the doors, the café is complete with tables and chairs next to a wall of windows, providing plenty of natural sunlight. But on the other side of the lobby there also is a sampling of more comfortable chairs and other furniture arranged near a fireplace.

And both Finn and Terry Wiltrout, vice president of Canonsburg Hospital and operations at the Outpatient Care Center, wanted to stress: You don’t have to be a patient or staffer there to enjoy a sandwich or a cup of Joe at the café.

“This is open to the community,” Wiltrout said, adding that free wireless Internet and even computers are available for those looking to get some work done while they visit.

And in addition to drinks and coffee, the café carries a variety of sandwiches, salads, sides and desserts—options Director of Nutritional Services Catherine Angle said were chosen because people of all ages would choose them.

Everything served at the café is packaged so you can grab it and go, she added.

All this comes at bargain prices, too, Wiltrout added: A big sandwich and a cold drink will cost you about $5.

Right now, Angle added, the Outpatient Care Center is partnering with local businesses such as Sunny Bridge (which is just a few doors down from the facility), which currently makes the salads.

Café hours are from 6 a.m. to 5:30 p.m. Monday through Friday, and Saturday 7:30 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. For more information call the Outpatient Care Center at 724-260-7000.
