Updated: DPW Revokes Happy Face Learning Center's License

A week ago Tuesday, the child care center in McMurray was forced to close following a near-drowning incident.

The state Department of Public Welfare spokeswoman confirmed it has revoked the licenses of three child care centers, including in McMurray, after a near-drowning June 23 in West Finley Township. 

Last Thursday, the Happy Face Learning Center was one of three Kid Biz, LLC owner Adele Lehew Wood was .

"Nothing much has changed," said spokeswoman Anne Bale. "The facility remains closed as it was last week.

"But, last week we acted on an emergency relocation order. We feared for the health and safety of the children. Now, it's very official. They are no longer recognized by the department."

Wood had the right to appeal the emergency relocation order issued last week and did, according to Bale.

She has the right to appeal Thursday's order until Aug. 8.
