Flurries Continue, Peters Township Roads Worsen

A Winter Weather Advisory is now in effect until 7 p.m. Tuesday.

Prepare yourself for the commute home—it’s not going to be easy. Snow flurries continue, leaving Peters Township roads not in the best of conditions.

The National Weather Service in Moon Township has extended its Winter Weather Advisory through 7 p.m. Tuesday ().

Snow showers and blowing snow is to blame.

The NWS expects an additional 1 to 3 inches of snow to accumulate through the early evening, which will impact the post-work commute.

Ten to 20 mph winds are blowing through the area—with wind gusts up to 30 mph. Temperatures will duck down into the teens as the evening approaches.

, Peters Township roads were actually in great shape—much cleaner than surrounding area roadways near South Hills Village and Boyce Road.

Salt trucks are out treating the covered roads.

The NWS invites residents to report snowfall accumulations by calling 1-800-633-6772.

As always, use caution while driving in increased traffic, as these conditions can cause ice to develop on roads beneath packed down snow.

Really? I experienced the opposite this morning.

Not sure what roads you drove this morning but my roads were bad until about 10am. School busses slid as well as a lot of cars trying to make their way to work. My guess is that Washington Road must have been bad as well as there was a school bus accident with students on it. Makes me wonder why there was not a delay.Better safe than sorry.

Hi Kim—I agree, I think a delay should have been in place. I was on E. McMurray, Valley Brook and the Route 19 part of Peters and those roads were just wet. They were a lot more dangerous in USC near South Hills Village. That was around 9:15 a.m. The roads really worsened in Peters throughout the day. Be safe this winter! Thanks for sharing!
