Gap Between Montour Trail and Clifton Road to Be Bridged Today

For seven years, a sign on Clifton Road—near East McMurray Road—has read "Help Bridge the Gap."

The J.R. Taylor Memorial Bridge will be raised into place Wednesday, by Century Steel Erectors, to permit the Montour Trail to cross Clifton Road. A monumental day it will be for many.

The volunteer effort has included 21 hours of labor in the past week, according to a release. A 500-ton crane will be used to raise the structure and place it on two new abutments that have been constructed on each side of Clifton Road.

Once the bridge is in place, construction of the deck and railing will be completed. A final opening date is projected for September.
