Luminari Launch Has Teens Talking Diplomacy with Top Execs

'I Want to be an Ambassador!' is a seven-day youth camp, and the first of its kind in western Pennsylvania.

Tuesday, a local program to teach area youths to think like ambassadors launched. There's no program similar in western Pennsylvania. The seven-day interdisciplinary "I Want to be an Ambassador!" camp is open to young people entering eighth through 12th grades.

The Luminari, Inc. program launched in Pittsburgh and will conclude with a two-day excursion to Washington D.C., where students will meet with diplomats on Embassy Row.

Teens enrolled will meet with Carlos Cardoso, president and chief executive officer of Kennametal, Inc.; Bill Lambert, president and chief executive officer of Mine Safety Appliances; Lani Lazzari, president and founder of Simple Sugars; and, Charlie Petredis, managing director (investments) of Wells Fargo.

Through the camp, teens will learn the art and skills used by local and international business leaders of the world's leading companies to communicate more effectively, negotiate win-win solutions, strengthen relationships and make better decisions—in one instance at Friday's event during a special roundtable discussion.

From 11-12:30 p.m. Friday, students will meet at the Senator John Heinz History Center's Discovery Room (1212 Smallman Street, Pittsburgh, PA 15222, 3rd floor).
