McMurray Rotary Club Names New President

Last week's annual dinner also included a presentation of awards and new member initiation.

The McMurray Rotary Club held its annual President’s Dinner last week at .

The event marks the end of the rotary year and the transition between club presidents. This year, outgoing president Don Angel, who served during the 2011-12 year, passed the gavel to the Rev. Jamison Hardy, 2012-13 president.

Following the dinner was a presentation of awards. The following were honored:

The Service Above Self Award was presented to Marcy Santel for exemplifying the rotary's motto throughout the year.

Santel and Hardy were recipients of the Paul Harris Awards that acknowledges individuals who contribute, or who have contributions—made in their name—of $1,000 toward The Rotary Foundation, which "enables Rotarians to advance world understanding, goodwill, and peace through the improvement of health, the support of education, and the alleviation of poverty," according to the Rotary International website.

Paul Owens, a charter member, was presented with a Paul Harris Plus One Award, given as further recognition to existing Paul Harris Fellows.

Dr. Sarah Kohl was presented with the Rotarian of the Year Award. 

Presented by District 7330 Gov. Jeanne Morrison, the Open Heart Award went to members Antonio Zuloaga and Gary Rosensteel.

One of five area clubs in the district to gain the honor, McMurray Rotary Club was presented with a Change Maker Award by District 7330.

Longtime member Lew Irwin was presented the Appreciation Award. Irwin, unable to attend, was promoted to brigadier general in the Army Reserve and has been given commend of a Reserve headquarters in Montgomery, AL.

Angel said during the president's dinner, "Thank you for your dedication and service to our club and to our nation." 

Lastly, two prospective members were initiated by former District 7330 Gov. Walter Olshanski, a member of the Canonsburg-Houston Rotary Club. Sarah Perry and Eddie Werner are now official McMurray Club rotarians.
