A major water pipeline reconstruction project underneath Greentree Road, expected to cause major delays, started Monday morning.

The work to replace a 16-inch and 12-inch waterlines with larger pipelines will go from 9 a.m. to 3:30 p.m. each weekday from Aug. 6 until late December.

It’s also expected to create a traffic nightmare for motorists and area  in Scott Township.

Pennsylvania American Water has hired Casper Colosimo & Sons to conduct the work between the Cochran Road spur and McMonagle Road. There will be temporary lane closures in both directions as crews work on the pipeline.

previously discussed whether daylight or evening construction would work best for upcoming work the water lines along Greentree Road. Some of them expressed concerns with trying to have the work done at night to alleviate traffic tie-ups only to aggravate residents who live right along the work's path and might be bothered by late night noise.

The commissioners ultimately decided to stipulate that crews work during daylight hours in residential areas and allow nighttime work in commercial zones.
