News Nearby: Man Jailed for Allegedly Trying to Run Down Neighbor

Raymond Geracitano was remanded to the Washington County Jail Thursday.

A Union Township man was jailed Thursday for allegedly trying to run over his neighbor late last month after the man asked him to slow down while driving on their residential road.

Southwest Regional Police said in a release that James Askins, 35, of Parkvue Drive in Union Township, asked Raymond Geracitano—who was reportedly driving at a high rate of speed on the residential street—to slow down on Aug. 30.

That’s when police said Geracitano “became enraged” and, after a brief verbal altercation, “tried to run over Askins with his vehicle.”

Police said Geracitano then went home and obtained another vehicle.

“The defendant swerved toward Askins, who was standing on the side of the street. Gericatano smelled of alcohol and admitted to officers that he had been drinking before the incident,” police said in a release.

Charges of aggravated assault, reckless endangerment and public drunkenness were filed and an arrest warrant issued by district Judge James Ellis in Peters Township.

Geracitano was arrested Thursday at his residence and arraigned before district Judge Larry Hopkins, who remanded him to the Washington County Jail on $50,000 straight bond.

His preliminary hearing is scheduled for 1:30 p.m. Tuesday before Ellis, online court records show.
