Patch Pet of the Month: Reeses is a Real Treat

Do you have room in your heart and home for Reeses?

I am bouncing back from being returned by nice people who chose me over all the other dogs just a couple months ago. I was such a good girl, never had an "accident," never tried to escape and did everything I was told to do.

But that wasn’t good enough for the resident dog. He got jealous and would not share his family with me. Regretfully and tearfully, the nice people brought me back to Angel Ridge and I know that someone else will give me a chance to shine.

Maybe you?

My name is Reeses for very good reasons! My long, silky coat is milk chocolate on the outside and peanut butter colored on the inside. I shimmer with red and gold highlights in the sun and, as you can see, it's just about impossible to take a bad picture of me.

I'm a ham for the camera, smiling and sashaying with delight at any and all attention. I also know “sit” and “down” which gets people to “oooh” and “ahhh” at how smart I am. Once I’m down, you can push me over with a feather onto my side where I hope to be rubbed and scratched.

Since the kennels have been crowded, I have been afforded the more luxurious suite inside the volunteer trailer, but it still cannot match the comfort and security of a real home. When they said, “No,” when I sniffed at their donuts, I walked away. When they said, “Uh, uh,” when I sank my head in the garbage can, I lifted it out, smiled and walked away. I listen when I am told what to do.

I have been able to walk about on the grounds unfettered during the day, because I’m a real people-dog, tagging along with every walker or staff member. When I am adopted, I will need a little supervision as I might tag along with a local jogger or trot behind a neighborhood walker and find myself many blocks away from where I should be. I love everyone, adults, kids and even cats. I have been seen lying in the sun with the local cats crawling on and around me. I pay them no attention and they treat me kindly.

I suppose that I am a bit large for some people, though I am easy to walk on leash. I am not much of a puller, but you wouldn’t know if you didn’t walk me.

And the bonus is that I am not a high-strung sporting dog or working dog that needs a ton of exercise. I’m a bit chubby and could lose some weight, but a normal walking routine and controlled feeding would do the trick.

I’ve been around and get along with most other dogs, and would share a family with one if he or she would share with me. Please do not count me out because I am large, or furry or middle-aged. I am a real catch.

And congratulations to ,  and , all featured as Pet of the Month on Patch and now, happily, all adopted!
