Santa Going SCUBA Diving at Nearby Pool

No, really: Find out how you can go SCUBA diving with Santa Claus at Chartiers Valley High School pool on Saturday.

Santa Claus is trading in his sleigh and eight tiny reindeer for a scuba mask and snorkel.

Splash Water Sports on Banksville Road is organizing an “Underwater Santa” fundraising event where he’ll be SCUBA diving with friends at the Chartiers Valley High School pool Saturday afternoon

“It’s a great event,” said Andy Kunig, store manager and training director at the Splash Water Sports. “It’s pretty popular with the kids.”

The event benefits the Greater Pittsburgh Community Food Bank, so people participating are asked to bring a non-perishable food item or make a $5 donation.

“It helps the community and it helps the food bank,” Kunig said.

Divers must be at least 8 years old, Kunig said, and have the proper paperwork to prove they are qualified without medical conditions.

The event will run from noon to 3 p.m. Saturday. Anyone who wishes to attend should contact Splash Water Sports at 412-531-5677 to register. Kunig said divers can also register the day of the event as long as their paperwork is already completed.
